Descendants of Robert Dark (b. circa 1800)

First Generation

1.   Robert DARK.

In the 1800's, a group of brothers moved to Canada, presumably from England. Their parents were probably Robert and Una Dark. That they were brothers is documented in the wills of Samuel and Matthew. Piecing together information from birth, marriage, death, and census records has allowed a family tree to be constructed from the Robert who was presumably their father.

That at least two daughters existed, as well, is evident from Samuel's will where he asks that his estate be split among his brothers and sisters if his daughter Amelia dies. These women included Charlotte and Sarah, who were living with their brother Albert Robert in 1861. It isn't clear if there were any other siblings.

James Alexander's parents on his marriage record are given as Robert and Una Dark, and this is the only place they are identified by name.

Robert married Una (Anna?) before 1819 in England.

Second Generation

2.   James DARK (Robert) was born 1819 in England. He died Jan 14 1898 in Middlesex Co, Ontario.

James married Margaret before 1848 in Ontario, Canada. Margaret was born 1828 in Ireland.

They had the following children:

3.   Albert Robert DARK (Robert) was born 1821 in England. He died Aft 1891, Bef 1901 in Rockwell, Manitoba.

Appears 1891 Manitoba census with wife and sons James (age 15), and Henry (age 11). Rockwood, Lisgar District census. Henry was born in Manitoba, so the family must have moved from Ontario prior to 1880. Samuel (Robert's son) is also on the 1891 census in Rockwood.

Albert married Phoebe PLUMB after 1855. Phoebe was born Jun 13 1840 in Markham, Ontario, Canada. She died 1910 in Summerland, BC, Canada.

Matthew married Elizabeth. Elizabeth was born 1821 in Kent Co., England. She died Mar 5 1902 in Middlesex Co, Ontario.

Joseph married Ann M. ADAMS, daughter of Jabez ADAMS and Sarah, on Nov 26 1877 in Plympton, Lambton Co, ON, Canada. Ann was born Dec 25 1858 in Euphemia, Lambton Co, ON, Canada. She died Mar 24 1916 in NewWestminster, British Columbia.

on 1901 census is listed as emigrating in 1873 from England
